Our History With This Site 💚
Some campsites you visit once and tick off your list… and then there are those little places that become firm favourites.
Holmsted Farm CL is one of those places for us.
This was actually our third visit to the site, which probably says more than any review ever could! We keep coming back because it offers exactly what we love about caravanning, peace, simplicity and a chance to escape without having to travel miles.
Being based in Sussex, it’s the perfect weekend location. A Friday evening arrival, two nights away and suddenly it feels like we’ve had a proper break.
Our most recent visit had a very specific purpose too this was our France preparation weekend.
Before a big touring adventure, we like to take Felix away locally to get everything organised. It gives us the chance to check our equipment, sort cupboards, test everything works and make sure we’re ready before setting off.
Holmsted Farm is ideal for this. It feels like a getaway, while still being close enough that it doesn’t add extra stress before a big trip.
Why We Visited
Our latest stay was all about getting ready for our next adventure.
A caravan preparation weekend might not sound exciting, but actually, it’s one of our favourite types of trips. It gives us a chance to slow down, enjoy Felix and get ourselves organised without the pressure of a long journey.
Of course, once everything was checked and sorted, there was still plenty of time for relaxing, enjoying the countryside and making the most of being away.
First Impressions
There is something special about a CL site.
Unlike larger holiday parks, there are no busy reception areas, entertainment schedules or rows of caravans. Instead, you get a much more traditional touring experience, just a handful of pitches, open space and the freedom to enjoy your surroundings.
Holmsted Farm has a lovely peaceful feel from the moment you arrive. The small number of pitches means it never feels overcrowded, and it’s the perfect place to escape the pace of everyday life.
It’s the kind of site where you can arrive on a Friday, put the kettle on, sit outside Felix and instantly feel yourself relax.
The Site & Pitches
Holmsted Farm offers a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches, giving visitors flexibility depending on their preference and setup.
Our favourite pitch has to be Pitch 3, it’s the one we always hope is available to book!
The pitches are a good size for a weekend stay and the small number of spaces gives the site a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
What we love:
✔ Only five pitches
✔ Peaceful countryside setting
✔ Choice of grass and hardstanding
✔ Great for short breaks
✔ No feeling of being packed in
For us, this is exactly what a weekend CL should be, simple, easy and relaxing
Facilities
As a CL, facilities are naturally much more basic than a traditional campsite, but that’s part of the appeal.
Available on site:
✔ Electric hook-up (metered)
✔ Toilet
✔ Waste disposal facilities
There are also some lovely extra experiences available separately at Holmsted Farm:
🌊 Wild swimming
🔥 Sauna (bookable online)
🐕 Dog walking area (bookable online)
We haven’t used the wild swimming or sauna ourselves yet, but we love that these options are available. They add something a little different and make Holmsted Farm stand out from many other CLs.
Family Friendly
Holmsted Farm isn’t a site with playgrounds, entertainment or organised activities, and that’s worth knowing before you visit.
However, for families who enjoy being outdoors, exploring and making their own adventures, it works really well.
The boys enjoy the freedom of being outside, and it’s a great reminder that caravanning doesn’t always need to be packed with activities.
Sometimes the best weekends are:
🌿 Fresh air
🚲 Exploring
🔥 Sitting outside the caravan
☕ Slow mornings
Dog Friendly
Countryside sites are always a winner for Hugo, and Holmsted Farm is a lovely place for dogs.
The peaceful surroundings and nearby countryside make it a great base for walks and outdoor adventures.
There is also a dedicated dog walking area available to book separately, which is a great option if you want a secure space for your four-legged friend.
Exploring Cuckfield & Beyond
Although we often visit Holmsted Farm just to relax, there are plenty of lovely places nearby if you want to explore.
Cuckfield Village
Cuckfield itself is a beautiful Sussex village with historic streets, independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs.
It’s perfect for a relaxed wander and a reminder that you don’t always need to travel far to discover lovely places.
National Trust Days Out
There are some fantastic National Trust options within easy reach:
🌳 Nymans
A beautiful National Trust garden with woodland walks, seasonal planting and stunning views.
🌿 Standen House and Garden
A wonderful Arts and Crafts house with beautiful gardens to explore.
Other nearby favourites include:
Wakehurst
Bluebell Railway
Borde Hill Garden
Food & Drink
Holmsted Farm isn’t a destination campsite for food and drink, but there are some lovely options nearby.
This is a site where we love making the most of Felix, cooking meals, sitting outside and enjoying the slower pace.

Would We Return?
Absolutely and we already have!
Three visits later, Holmsted Farm remains one of our favourite local CL sites.
It’s not somewhere we visit for entertainment or endless facilities. We visit because it gives us exactly what we love about caravanning time together, fresh air, peaceful surroundings and the chance to slow down.
It has become our go-to place for a weekend escape and our France preparation trips, and somewhere we’ll happily keep returning to.
The Caravanning Mummy’s Final Word
Not every campsite needs swimming pools, arcades or a packed activity schedule.
Sometimes the best places are the simple ones.
The places where you arrive, open the caravan door, put the kettle on and instantly feel yourself relax.
Holmsted Farm CL is exactly that.
A little Sussex gem, fantastic value, beautifully peaceful and somewhere that reminds us why we love caravanning.
A place we’ll definitely be returning to again. 💚
