Looking for an honest Les Ormes campsite review? During our 2025 France caravanning adventure, we spent five nights at Les Ormes Domaine & Resort in Brittany, staying on a standard grass touring pitch with the boys.
Known for its incredible pool complex and endless activities, Les Ormes is regularly regarded as one of the best family campsites in France. But does it live up to the hype?

Why We Chose Les Ormes
Les Ormes had been on our wish list for a while. We’d heard so much about the facilities and knew the boys would absolutely love the waterpark.
And they really did.
When we asked Benji and Toby which campsite was their favourite from our 2025 France trip, there wasn’t even a debate. Les Ormes won hands down, largely thanks to the impressive pool complex.
Arrival and First Impressions
Check-in was smooth and straightforward, and we were handed a map and left to find our own pitch.
One thing that did surprise us was the tourist tax, which felt noticeably higher than some of the other areas we’d visited in France and certainly added to the overall cost of our stay.
Our first impression was simply the scale of the place.
Les Ormes is huge.
With a large number of static caravans and accommodation options, it immediately feels more like a holiday resort than a traditional campsite.
Our Pitch at Les Ormes
We stayed on a standard grass touring pitch and were pleasantly surprised by just how much space we had.
Despite visiting towards the end of the season, the grass was in excellent condition and our pitch was huge, with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sunshine.
Access was a little cosy in places but perfectly manageable, and once on pitch it felt very open.
One thing we weren’t so keen on was the public service point situated on our pitch. It wasn’t a deal-breaker, but it did slightly take away from the feeling of having your own private space.
Facilities at Les Ormes Campsite
If you’re looking for a campsite where boredom simply isn’t an o ptio n, Les Ormes delivers.
The site offers:
Swimming pools and waterpark.
High ropes and zip wires.
Horse riding.
Golf.
Water sports.
Fishing.
Mini golf.
Bike and pedal hire.
Play areas.
There really is something for everyone.
However, it’s worth noting that many of these activities come with additional charges, so costs can soon add up.

Swimming Pools and Waterpark
Without doubt, the pool complex is the jewel in Les Ormes’ crown.
Benji and Toby absolutely loved the indoor pool area, especially the slides and the hugely popular wave machine.
If you’d asked them to review the campsite themselves, Les Ormes would probably score a perfect 10 out of 10 based on the pools alone!
We used both the indoor and outdoor pools and, despite the site being busy, we never struggled to find somewhere to sit inside. Sun loungers outside were harder to come by, but that’s hardly surprising during busy periods.
Les Ormes was also the only campsite we visited that had lifeguards around the pool complex, which was reassuring and helped everything feel well managed.
Lockers were available and although we didn’t use the changing facilities themselves, everything appeared clean and well maintained.
Activities We Tried
There are so many activities available that you could happily spend your entire holiday without leaving the site.
We enjoyed a game of mini golf, although it was very tired and definitely in need of some refurbishment.
We also had great fun with the pedalo hire, which proved popular with the boys.
One thing we quickly discovered was that while there is an endless amount to do, many activities come at an additional cost, so it’s worth budgeting accordingly.
Food, Bakery and On-Site Shop
We were pleasantly surprised by the food options at Les Ormes.
The pizza restaurant became one of our favourites. It was always busy and the wait to get seated could be slow, but the food was excellent and offered great value for money.
Both bars were lovely, especially the newer bar area, which quickly became our go-to spot for a morning coffee.
Ironically, we discovered this after accidentally tripping the electrics on our pitch. Unfortunately, what should have been a minor issue turned into a much bigger inconvenience. We spent most of the day without power and the wait for assistance felt far too long.
Thankfully, coffee helped soften the frustration!
The bakery was excellent, with delicious pastries and fresh bread, while the on-site shop impressed us with its range. It was well stocked with everything from groceries to holiday essentials and meant we rarely needed to venture elsewhere.
And of course, the crêpes and ice creams were a huge hit with all of us.
Nearby Attractions
Although you could easily spend your whole holiday on site, we did manage to venture out to visit Mont Saint-Michel.
One of France’s most iconic landmarks, it’s around 45 minutes away and makes a fantastic day trip from Les Ormes.
The Overall Atmosphere
This is perhaps where Les Ormes divides opinion.
Although Les Ormes is in France, it almost feels like a self-contained holiday resort. You could spend your entire holiday on site and barely realise you’re in Brittany.
For us, one of the joys of caravanning in France is discovering smaller campsites, soaking up the local atmosphere and enjoying that relaxed French charm.
Les Ormes delivers brilliantly on facilities, but less so in terms of authenticity.
With its size and large number of static caravans and other accommodation typ;es, it feels more like a holiday park than a traditional French campsite.
That’s not necessarily a criticism. Many families will absolutely love that style of holiday, but it did mean we didn’t quite fall in love with it in the same way we have with some smaller sites.
Things to Know Before Booking
Les Ormes is a large, busy resort.
It doesn’t have a traditional French campsite feel.
Many activities come with additional costs.
Some facilities, particularly the mini golf, are beginning to show their age.
Tourist tax in the area is relatively expensive.
We experienced a lengthy wait for help after losing our electrics.
You could easily spend your entire holiday without leaving the site.

What We’d Do Differently Next Time
Budget more for activities.
Spend even more time at the pools.
Stay longer than five nights.
Use Les Ormes primarily as a fun family stop rather than a base for exploring Brittany.

Would We Return?
Yes.
But perhaps not with quite the same eagerness as some of the smaller French campsites we’ve visited over the years.
There are other sites we’d probably revisit first because they offer more of the relaxed French atmosphere we personally enjoy.
That said, when it comes to facilities, Les Ormes is difficult to beat, and it’s easy to understand why so many families return year after year.
Final Thoughts
If you’d asked Benji and Toby to write this review, Les Ormes would almost certainly score a perfect 10 out of 10.
As parents, we’re perhaps a little more drawn to smaller sites with more French character, but there’s no denying that Les Ormes creates magical family memories.
For pools, activities and keeping children entertained, it’s brilliant.
For those seeking a slower pace and a more authentic taste of France, there may be better options.
And perhaps that’s exactly what makes Les Ormes so interesting. It won’t be everyone’s perfect campsite, but for the right family, it could well be.
